About me
Welcome To ChrisBonafide & Itzrealbonafide Muzik.
I was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, West Indies with muzik around me from birth and I always love being a singer even though singing was not a career not Reggae in those times. Nonetheless, by the time I went to high school I was already influenced by all forms of music. A senior high school member and also a lover of muzik name - Debon Panton had invited me to joined the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force which delightedly I did and the following year he had brought to my attention the idea of starting a drum corp for our high school Cadet Unit. From there on I played every instruments in the Drum Corp, mastering them all especially Bugle and Trumpet. However, the singing was never left out at all. The love of the bugle and trumpet had gotten me in to music calls and training with the Jamaica Defence Force Military Band which was more than an honour. By that time we were the founders of Our high school first drum corp and by so doing, we also were the founders of the first female cadet unit in the history of The Jamaica Combined Cadet Force.
My first onstage performance however was in a concert at my high school. There I sang the song " Killing me softly" by Roberto Flask backed by the band 'Bloodfire Posse'. On stage also was a class mate of mine now actor Michael Ralph the brother of George Ralph and Acting Diva Sheryl Lee Ralph. My second major performance was at another high school name Campion at a fund raiser concert. That was a show never to forget. Even Debon Panton after so many decades, recently reminded me about that show. I also went on to performing at other high schools concerts and dance contests as well and becoming a master of ceremony. I was also one of the first disco rappers of that time. This was by then in the late '70 when Rapper's Delight' by Grandmaster Flash/SugerHilll Gang and 'These are the Breaks' by Curtis Blow were the new incoming tune called Rap. I was also one of the earliest record sales person and Disc-jockey to introduce 'Rap' muzik to the island's entertainment scene, thanks to my beloved friends Andrew Edmondson, Tony and Chris Jarrett from 'Oddessy' sound systems, who i had met at "Vibrarions" record store in Manor Park Plaza. I remembered a friend name Michael Griffiths said that Rap muzik would be taking over the market one day and we use to be at his house creatng lyrics and listening to the beats of the time. There was also the group 'Native',which had release their LP. thought it was not rap, it stucked out in my memory ever since then. Now one of the group members 'Native Wayne' is a radio discjockey in Los Angeles, California for one of the top radio station Indie 103FM.
By 1980, I had been requested to be by the Student Council Commitee to be the Master Of Ceremony for Hollywood High School Variety Concert Christmas Show. I found out at the show that I am not the only Master of Ceremony but the legendary Baga Brown, One Jamaica's reknown and formal Master of Ceremony was to M. C. the show as well. Eventhemore, I opened the show and was honoured not only to be on stage with one of Jamaica's great M/C. but to introduce him for the second half of the show. After that show I took a big break from muzik and went on to run a partnership business in silk-screening> I also went deeper into my spiritual aknowledgements and growth and while doing so my meditations would be accompanied by muzik from artists such as Agustus Pablo, Dennis Brown, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Black Uhuru and Burning Spear.
International muzik had it's influences on me also from my youth, and my appreciation to all genre of muzik had to do with my parents. They too had also opened me up to all kind of entertainment, exposures, potencials and opportunities. There was no choice but to love the artists of all cultures like Mario Lanza, Nat "King" Cole, Perry Como, Brook Benton, Louis Armstrong , Louis Jordan, Lennon Sister, Pat Boone, Sam Cooke, Ben E. King, Eddie Kendricks, Oris Reddings, Englebert Humperdink, Tom Jones, The Platter, Drifter, Temptations, Neil Diamond, Cat Stephens, Simon and Garfunkel, Bobby Caldwell, Tina Marie, Roberta Flack , Aretha Frankiln, Gladys Night and The Pips, Ojay, Stylistics, Chilites, Earth, Wind And Fire, Isley Brothers, Elvis Presley, Tina Marie , Sade, Everlyn Chanpagne King, Denise Williams, Nina Simone, The Whispers, Rolls Royce, Neville Brothers, Mighty Sparrow, The Merrymen and obviously there too many more to mentions. They all had opened my heart and soul even the more to muzik in such a manner that I had to now coined them all as members of the " Universal Harnony", a term I coined as the expression of all common ground for the unity of all cultures.
I would like to with great gratitude, thank the many artists, muzik groups and workers in the muzik industry who I have worked with over the years, in one way or another, for their support, help and for giving me the opportunity to be exposed to the hard work, patience, endurance and longsuffering that all honest and true musicians, writers and composer alike had to go through. My gratitude goes out to, 'The Bloodfire Posse' which was the first to backed up all the performers at our high school concert in 1975. Thanks goes out to Debon Panton who who opened a major door in my muzik career and still is a long time friend and brother of mine. Also, Michael Raplh my class mate who also encourage me to enter that show in 1975. Also, Paul Blake, Bagga Brown, Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, The Twelve Tribes Of Israel Organization Muzik Boby, 1980 to Present., Dennis Brown,(CPOR)R.I.P. Reggae Fever - 81, Denroy Morgan - Reggae Fever- 82, Island Records Mango Label with Donavon & Foundations -1986 , Burning Spear - Addison Park, Browns Town, St. Anns, Janaica - 1987, United Nation Band who sealed my first performance in california, Wadi Gad and JahBandis at Kingstom 12- Haile Selassie 1st Birthday Celebration-1993 which was my second performance in California, Paul Higgs and Jah Fellowship Band, Paul Higgs & Andrew Tosh, Maicia Higgs & The Annual Joe Higgs Music Awards , Ms. J. Ross-Parelli and her family in Aurborn,California too great a family for words to express, Haile Maskel, Hawaiian Lion & Mr. Beenie, Original General Smiley and most definitely - Jah Mex who never endingly invites me to work with him on all his show. I had the opportunity to work with him recently along with Tippa Irie at Club, Bar & Restaurant Mozambique, Laguna Beach, Ca.
